This is often the precursor to Delayed Contribution Syndrome, and forces the sufferer to read the entire channel conversation stored in their IRC clients "buffer" on returning to their computer after being away from it for a period. They will read each and every line, especially the ones concerning themselves. The transition to Delayed Contribution Syndrome comes when they begin commenting on any channel content that is of interest to them, even though the conversation potentially ended many hours ago.
