Technology, Wails and Screams
From Aber
The modern term for "modems", which are electronic devices for converting between serial data (typically EIA-232) from a computer and an audio signal suitable for transmission over telephone lines connected to other modems. The audio signal when listened to on a normal telephone has the distinct sound of wailing and screaming and general rending of cloth. Modems are a very old technology these days and only used in areas where broadband Internet is not available, such as Crewe for example. People who are forced to use wails and screams technology are usually extremely bitter about it, and therefore very easy targets for taunting, every two hours or so.
